bremen_teen_falls+tree+A Bremen teen is in stable condition after being knocked unconscious by a fall from the top of a tree Thursday.
Joshua Staiger, 13, was unable to breathe after plummeting from a high branch of a tree in Bremen’s Shady Side Park.
Staiger’s family says the quick response of a neighbor who witnessed the fall may have saved the boy’s life.
“She saw it happen it was from a distance and she called immediately,” said Josh’s mom, Caralisa Staiger. “He wasn’t breathing, I think she saved his life.”
Staiger was climbing with a friend who told emergency responders that he ended up on a high branch that snapped.
Staiger was taken to Bremen Hospital and airlifted to South Bend Memorial where he is currently in stable condition in the pediatric intensive care unit.
Staiger suffered a concussion and a small bleed in the back of his head, but no broken bones from the fall.
Three days into the teen’s recovery and the support and prayers from the local community — as well as friends and family around the world — has been immense, Staiger said.
“I put it online and it went viral within hours, I mean thousands of people were praying,” she said. “That’s what we’re giving it to: the power of prayer.”
The full extent of Joshua’s injuries is not yet known but friends and family is hopeful for a full recovery.
