04/08/14 On Thursday, April 3rd at 1:38 P.M. Plymouth Police Officer John Weir initiated a traffic stop at Jefferson and Center Streets on 20 year old Christopher J. Chaney of South Bend. During the course of the investigation of the traffic stop it was learned that Mr. Chaney had never received a driver’s license and was found to be driving while suspended. When Mr. Chaney was asked to step from the vehicle a strong odor of suspected marijuana followed him out of the vehicle. He was found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Chaney was transported and lodged at the Marshall County Jail where he was booked on Possession of Marijuana and Paraphernalia, Driving While Suspended and Operator Never Licensed and held on a $1,505 bond. He was later released on April 4th and received a Superior Court II date of April 29th for his initial hearing.
On Friday, April 4th at 7:21 P.M. Plymouth Officer Paul Stamper responded to Applebee’s Restaurant in reference to a couple highly intoxicated subjects that appeared to be getting into their vehicle to leave. Officer Stamper observed the suspect’s vehicle backing out of a parking space nearly hitting four parked vehicles. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, 36 year old Janet H. Pullen of Warsaw was found to be Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated. She was taken into custody and transported to the County Jail and held on a $1,505 bond. Ms. Pullen was released on April 5th and will appear in Superior Court II on April 15th.
On Sunday, April 6th Officer Ben McIntyre received a complaint of an unwanted guest at 217 Pennsylvania Avenue. Officer McIntyre made contact with 21 year old Alexis Tanner of Plymouth who was found to be intoxicated standing outside of her vehicle. Tanner was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to St. Joseph Regional Hospital for evaluation and later transported to the Marshall County Jail and held on a $505 bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
