01/30/14  On Wednesday, January 29th at approximately  4:40 A.M. the Marshall County 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a report of a single vehicle accident on Sycamore Road just south of 1st Road.  As officers arrived at the scene it was determined that the 2002 Dodge Intrepid had been southbound on Sycamore Road when it went off the road on the east side striking a concrete driveway marker before spinning into a homemade mailbox.

The driver, 22 year old Jared Bunton of North Liberty and his passenger were located a quarter-of-a-mile away from the accident.  Mr. Burton suffered extensive injuries as a result of the accident and was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.  The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the accident but alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Polk Township Fire, LaPaz Fire and Walkerton EMS.   Lyons Towing assisted in the removal of the vehicle due to the extensive damage caused by the accident.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
