PHS Key Club Members Volunteer on MLK Day at Miller’s

  01/22/14 On Monday January 20th, more than 70 members of the Plymouth High School Key Club paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy by dedicating themselves to a day of service and volunteer activities throughout the Plymouth area.  Five of these students chose Miller’s Senior Living Community to share their acts of service.

“We honor Dr. King by giving back to Marshall County,” said Stephanie Wezeman, the Advisor of Plymouth High School Key Club. “Throughout the year, PHS Key Club kids, and their partners in Plymouth Kiwanis, are using the power of service to make a real difference in our community. ‘

Sophomores Kurtis Smith and George Stults along with Juniors Brandon Knepper, Lupita Ortiz and Kirstin Riise spent Monday visiting with residents at Miller’s Assisted Living.  Their acts of kindness and volunteerism were varied.  The girls offered manicures to all the ladies while the boys played cards with several residents.  They all spent time getting to know the residents on a more personal basis.  Several rode along and helped on the afternoon shopping trip.  And before it was time to leave all five took part in the monthly, afternoon sing-a-long!

It is estimated that the Key Club contributed more than 250 service hours to the Marshall County community on Monday.  PHS Key Club President Travis Tredway suggests that if you happen to know a Key Clubber you take time to thank them for their service.  Other businesses and organizations that benefitted from the Key Club’s day of service were:  Plymouth High School, at the Marshall County Humane Society, Pilgrim Manor, Miller’s Merry Manor, Miller’s Assisted Living, the Plymouth Fire Department, the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, the Webster Center, and other locations in the area.
