11/08/13 Tony Gamble representing Freedom Park told the Park Board this week that their fundraising efforts have reached over $10,000.
On October 20th the 2nd Annual Freedom Park Car Show was held in the parking lot of the Pine Creek Plaza where Mancino’s is located. Gamble said the first car show had 53 vehicles and he was very pleased with this year’s result of 70 vehicles. In said, “I’m afraid we are almost outgrowing the parking area and may need to look for a new location next year.”
The Freedom Park committee is going to start looking into the possibility of applying for some grants but is in need of a grant writer. They are also going to be hosting three luncheons in December for “key community people” hoping to explain the all-inclusive playground they plan to build in Centennial park and begin the process of securing sponsors for the various pieces of apparatus that will be placed in the park.
In other business the Plymouth Park Board approved the request of park superintendent Mike Hite to attend the Indiana Park and Recreation Association’s conference in Indianapolis January 2014. Cost for the conference is $250 plus the room and meals. It was explained that attendance at the conference is beneficial to the park department with networking with other area park department, programing ideas and informational session on grants. Hite noted that he hadn’t attended for a couple of years and felt it was time to see what is new for municipal park departments. The Park Board unanimously approved his request.
