10/09/13 The River Park Square project is about three weeks behind schedule according to Mike Reese from the Troyer Group.

He explained the some of the specialty items haven’t arrived on time causing the delay.  He also noted that the paving company, Phend and Brown has been jumping in and out of the project.  Reese said they are swamped with work to complete before the asphalt plants shut down.

He said it has been frustrating to Michiana Contracting the contractors of the project.

The underground work is on schedule and nearly completed so people will be able to see more results of the construction on a day to day basis.   The restroom structure is being framed up and the exterior will move along pretty quickly.  Reese commented that the interior will take a bit more time.

The 15 foot Christmas tree has been planted in the plaza and the crew is working on a seat wall that will surround it.  There was some discussion at the Park Board meeting about this year’s tree lighting ceremony.  The grass in the park will not have enough time to be established so precautions would need to be taken to keep the crowd off the soil.  Although the park will be completed by the end of the month the restroom building isn’t expected to be complete until Thanksgiving.

The Farmers’ Market pergola just arrived on Monday and workers were beginning to install it on Tuesday.

The underground work for the fountain in the Farmers’ Market is complete but Reese noted that the pit that the pump will be installed in is not water proof so is should be removed each fall and replaced in the spring.  The city should also remove it pending any flooding situations.
