Ancilla Hosts Meeting to Discuss New Work Study Internships

September 24, 2013

09/25/13 Local college administration and staff came to Ancilla Friday, September 20th to discuss Indiana’s Common Core Standards (INCC).

INCC holds monthly meetings and this particular gathering included three guest speakers: Janet Boston, the Executive Director of Indiana INTERNnet, Kate Lee, coordinator of Internships for St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce, and Amanda Stanley from Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

On the agenda was discussion about the EARN (Employment Aid Readiness Network) program.  Indiana INTERNnet is now integrated with EARN which replaces the state work-study program.  Students who are offered state financial aid work-study have the chance to participate in paid internships for the work-study.  Indiana INTERNnet will help match students with employers in order to make the most of their academic career and give them “real-world” experience in their field.

Both students and local business benefit.  Students have a chance to be a part of resume-building internship and receive money that does not affect their loans or grants. Companies hiring eligible students receive a fifty percent reimbursement for their participation through state funds.

Students and employers can find out more at indianaintern.net.
