09/20/13 Marshall County Employees will receive thirteen (13) paid holidays next year.  On Monday the Marshall County Commissioner approved the 2014 Holiday Schedule with one change.

Washington’s Birthday which is in February was moved to December 24th giving county employees Wednesday and Thursday, December 25th off for their Christmas vacation.  That day was changed to Friday, December 26th instead of the 24th giving employees a four day weekend.

Marshall County commissioner Kevin Overmyer noted that having the county buildings shut down for December 24th and 25th is typical but having to open back up on the 26th and then be closed for the weekend seemed like a waste of controlling energy costs for the county.

Debbie Palmer, the county’s HR Director conducted a spontaneous poll of some employees with the majority of them preferring the four day weekend verses December 24th and 25th.
