07/09/13 Residents of Miller’s Senior Living Community enjoyed spending the July 4th afternoon on the lovely screened back porch participating in an activity titled Trifle and Trivia.  The facility dietary team created a delicious homemade red, white and blue trifle.  Activity Director Cindy Flagg and volunteer Juanita Stapan served the trifle to residents and their guests.

While those gathered took time to visit and eat, Flagg asked trivia questions having to do with American history.  She had also given direction on writing acrostic poetry.  Those who wished to participate used the word “AMERICA” to write a poem and bring it to share at the back porch gathering.   One poem stood out in particular as capturing the essence of our great country.

AMERICA

By Mary Probst

America – a great country to be in

May we all be thankful we live here

Every one of us win

Remember our country is dear

In our work and in our play

Count your blessings every day

America – a great country to live in.

After sharing poems the group continued to visit and share memories from past holidays with family and friends.
