07/02/12 The small town of Tippecanoe is the home of Heartland Artist Gallery exhibitor, Lisa Lea Bemishand well as the home of our Heartland member of the month, Perry Olshein. Not only do they have this in common but they also live across the road from each other.

Heartland Gallery is proud to have Lisa Lea Bemish as our Artist of the Month for the month of July.

Art has been a passion of Lisa starting at a very young age. After majoring in Art in High School she never stopped creating every day in some way while building a life with her husband and daughter.   When she became a stay at home mom in 2008, she took an oil painting workshop and fell in love with the medium. Oils have an immense spectrum of versatility and can be executed with the speed that keeps her driven when creating a piece. Lisa said  she loves nature and the wondrous colors Mother Nature gives us every day. She also has a deep love for animals and has channeled that passion into doing pet portraits that are finding a delighted and growing audience. She’s won many awards in several juried shows across Indiana, including the prestigious Hoosier Women Artist Competition by the Lt. Governor and that painting hung in the State House for a year. I also won a spot in the widely distributed Ford Meter Box Calendar in 2012.

Most recently her artwork was chosen for the cover of GLO Magazine, and will appear on the August 2013 cover. This year she’s added teaching to her resume after taking over classes previously taught by her mentor Marilyn Kruger. During her month long exhibition at Heartland she will also have a one day workshop on Saturday July 20th10am-3pm at Heartland Gallery. This is a class suited for all levels of artist. Beginners are amazed at their finished painting every time. no drawing is required. So, don’t let your ‘I’ve never painted before’ stop you.  Sign up today at Heartland or email me at LisaLeaArt@yahoo.com . Also keep up to date with my new work by visiting my website at www.Lisa-Bemish.ArtistWebsites.com or follow me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LLBemishArt. During the month of July the member of the month will be  Perry Olshein. Perry has always been an art aficionado, collecting paintings and visiting art museums. A few years ago, he started his painting career by taking weekly private lessons from Marilyn Kruger of Akron, Indiana, and an artist was born.   Although he appreciates realism, his artwork is interpretative in a painterly fashion but is not abstract.  His favorite American artist is Edward Hopper, and one of his all-time favorite artists is Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

He was born on a snowy January night in Albany, New York, back in 1954. After high school, Perry earned a degree in hotel-restaurant management from State University of New York and graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in1975.   The story of Perry’s Deli began in 1982 and lasted until 2003, when Perry sold his famous deli. Perry’s Deli has been featured in all the major Chicago newspapers, national magazines, local television stations as well as National Public Radio. One of his  sandwiches was chosen as one of the top five in the country by the Today Show!

Since 2003, Perry and his wife Kathy (also his best friend) moved from Chicago to their five acre farm in Indiana and opened MarKay’s Castle of the Dogs, a thriving boarding and dog training facility (www.markaydog.com). Perry and Kathy have five of their own dogs as well as two cats and two horses.

At the age of fifty-one, upon moving to Marshall County, he became a volunteer firefighter and went on to become a certified First Responder.

He looks forward to many years of painting and hopes  you enjoy his work. He has sold many of his house portraits to satisfied clients, and hopes to sell many, many more! He welcomes you to contact him if you have any questions.
