05/23/13 The Pine Water Treatment Plant improvement project in TIF #1 being funded through the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission continues to move forward.
Utility superintendent Donnie Davidson said the filter media (sand and gravel) has been removed from the two existing filters and damage was discovered in the lower portion on the filter. The repairs needed include repairing the pitted steel and defective coatings in the two existing filters. He explained that no damage was anticipated during the design because the original inspection did not indicate any significant damage. Davidson said, “Failure to repair at this time could potentially result in the longevity of each pressure filter being reduced by several years. The Redevelopment Commission approved a change order for $22,680 to make the necessary repairs.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi updated commission members on the River Park Square project in TIF #2. On May 2nd the preconstruction meeting with Michiana Contracting was held the contract documents were finalized. Notice to proceed on the project was granted and work is scheduled to begin on June 3rd with substantial completion scheduled for October 21st. The restroom facility has been given the address of 126 Water Street.
Surrisi said the city has reached agreement with the property owner at 301 East Garro Street for purchase. They are moving forward and closing is expected in a couple of months.
The Garmong Shell Building project in TIF #3 is ready to move forward. It is anticipated that a public hearing on the public private project will be held at next month’s meeting. If the project is approved it will move on to the city council for ordinance approval. Once approved construction could begin the end of August or early September. The idea of this is, build it and they will come in hopes of enticing a new industry with a building well suited for them. The city will pay the interest payments on the project until the building sells.
