05/06/13 Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02) today joined the Women in Agriculture Breakfast to talk to with over 25 local farmers and Indiana Farm Bureau members about their concerns and current updates in the agricultural industry. Representing many counties across Indiana’s Second District, Walorski had the opportunity to brief farmers on the upcoming Farm Bill, which is scheduled to be introduced in Congress on May 15th.
“Agriculture is the cornerstone of our economy, and it is a privilege to sit down with Hoosier women to have a frank discussion about what needs to be done at the federal level to improve conditions for our growers and producers,” said Walorski. “As we debate the Farm Bill, I will be at the table to strengthen agriculture and sustain family farms for Northern Indiana.”
Hoosier farmers expressed the need to authorize support programs and repeal overly burdensome regulations from government agencies, like the EPA, that make it increasingly difficult to maintain farms. Before Walorski was elected last year, Congress failed to pass a 5-year Farm Bill, putting farmers at a disadvantage and projecting Washington uncertainty onto the agriculture industry.
“We appreciate Rep. Walorski joining our discussion to identify common sense ways for Congress to help us sustain our family farms. Her efforts to protect agriculture will allow us to keep growing, selling, and contributing to the local economy,” said Deb Walsh, a member of the Indiana Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee for District 1.
In March, Walorski completed a district-wide agriculture tour, meeting with all 10 counties in Indiana’s Second District to join roundtable discussions with farmers and members of the Indiana Farm Bureau.
