04/08/13 The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency in conjunction with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security are teaming up to distribute NOAA All Hazard Alert Radios to residents in Marshall County.
NOAA All Hazard Alert Radio broadcasts National Weather Service (NWS) warnings, watches, forecasts and other non-weather related hazard information 24 hours a day. During an emergency, National Weather Service forecasters interrupt routine broadcasts and send a special tone activating local weather radios. Weather radios equipped with a special alarm tone feature, sound an alert to give you immediate information about a life-threatening situation in order for you to take emergency protective actions to keep you and your family safe.
NOAA All Hazard Alert Radio broadcasts warnings and post-event information for all types of hazards: weather (e.g., tornadoes, floods), natural (e.g., earthquakes, forest fires and volcanic activity), technological (e.g., chemical releases, oil spills, nuclear power plant emergencies, etc.), and national emergencies (e.g., terrorist attacks). Working with other Federal agencies and the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Emergency Alert System (EAS), NOAA Weather Radio is an all-hazards radio network, making it the most comprehensive weather and emergency information available to the public.
Life-threatening weather emergency messages are alerted on NOAA All Hazard Alert Radio. Many of those same weather-related emergency messages are also broadcast via the Emergency Alert System on television and radio stations.
These radios were provided by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and distributed to all counties in the State of Indiana that wished to participate in the program.
The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency has a limited number of radios to give away. We are looking to distribute these radios to citizens in the county who are at the greatest risk of being injured or killed during severe weather events. Community members who live in mobile or modular homes and people with special needs are our primary target audience for this program.

The giveaway will begin on Monday, April 8, 2013 and will continue until all radios available have been distributed.
