04/05/13 The Grants Committee of the Marshall County Community Foundation awarded the first round of 2013 grants from the General Endowment Fund and the Ralph C. Vonnegut Jr. Grants during a news conference held Wednesday afternoon.
Twice each year the Marshall County Community Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations in Marshall County for new, innovative, and collaborative projects. The General Endowment Fund of the Marshall County Community Foundation now exceeds $4 million dollars, enabling the Foundation to award more than $160,000 in grants from this fund on an annual basis.
During the Spring 2013 grant round, $73,375 was awarded to eighteen organizations in Marshall County for the following projects:
Ancilla Domini Sisters, Inc: $5,000 for a cultural performance of the Messiah by local choir directed by Dr. David Lamb and accompanied by members of the South Bend Symphony
Argos High School Business Professionals of America: $4,000 for costs associated with State and National competitions for this new program
Bourbon Community Awareness Inc. of Triton DI (Destination ImagiNation): $2,500 for the creation of a patriotic mural in downtown Bourbon, Indiana
Bremen Girls Softball League: $1,200 to purchase softball gear
Culver Boys and Girls Club : $2,500 to support Triple Play, a wellness program for youth focused on the mind, body, and soul
Culver High School: $5,000 to purchase a sound system in the high school/middle school auditorium which serves the student body and broader community
Encore Performing Arts: $1,000 for a Latino performance in the “Music in the Park” series
Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Fund, Inc: $1,325 for office equipment
Leadership Marshall County: $1,500 for costs associated with leadership classes
Marshall County Melody Makers: $1,100 for performance apparel and sound equipment
Marshall-Starke Development Center: $8,800 for the purchase of new carpet in the conference room, classroom, and break room
Plymouth Aquatic Club: $5,000 to conduct feasibility study for a public indoor aquatic facility
Plymouth Chamber of Commerce: $1,000 to help underwrite 2ndFriday Christmas Events
Plymouth High School: $15,000 to purchase equipment for new Robotics Club
Plymouth High School: $5,000 for second year funding of New Tech Network
Plymouth Tennis Club: $1,950 to support capital improvement campaign for new tennis courts
Triton Summer League: $10,000 to complete site work around new concession stand
Youth Leadership Marshall County: $1,500 for costs associated with leadership classes
The Ralph C. Vonnegut Jr. Fund was established to provide funding for environmental, educational, or recreational projects directly related to Lake Maxinkuckee. This year $13,000 was awarded to the following organizations in the Culver/Lake Maxinkuckee area:
Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Fund, Inc.: $10,000 for Sediment Core Sampling
Lake Maxinkuckee Association: $3,000 for purchase of Marine Thermal Cameras
The Marshall County Community Foundation is a public charity with local roots that helps great ideas take flight through endowment philanthropy. Since 1991, donors to the Marshall County Community Foundation have built the community’s assets currently valued at more than $28 million and have returned over $10 million to support charitable interests and causes throughout Marshall County.
The General Endowment Fund is a grant making fund of the Marshall County Community Foundation (MCCF) that is one of the most flexible and responsive of the Foundation’s 297 funds. Grants from this endowment fund address needs throughout Marshall County typically focusing on the arts, education, health and human services, recreation and the environment. The Ralph C. Vonnegut Jr. Fund was established to provide funding for environmental, educational or recreational projects directly related to Lake Maxinkuckee. For both types of grants, members of the community evaluate proposals and conduct site visits during a competitive application process.
