02/18/13 Triton’s Destination Imagination Program created Challenge Day so their DI teams could spend one entire day working as team on the Instant Challenge portion of the DI program.

The teams began rolling in about 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 9th to be run through about 11 instant challenges. An Instant Challenge, or IC is a scored portion of the competitions where the teams are escorted to a room where there are 3-5 “appraisers”. The team is given written instructions to read while an Appraiser reads the directions aloud. The challenges are designed to create a “think on your feet given these guidelines and only these supplies in 5-6 minutes” scenario for the team. The team must read along with the Appraiser, not touch any items provided until they are told and as a team create their solution to the Instant Challenge presented to them. When they complete the task, they are not allowed to speak about what their challenge was or how they solved it to anyone except their Team Manager, until after Global Finals. The Teams take an oath before they participate at the Regional, State and Global Finals. Our day was a great success this year, with 7 adult helpers being the “Appraisers” for the challenges we provided.
