01/17/13 An Argos drive got a real wake-up call Wednesday morning. 68 year old Ewen Vires of Argos was northbound on Michigan Street at the railroad viaduct in a 1990 GMC Van when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. He told Plymouth Police Officer John Weir that he was in-route to the park to construct a building and must have fallen asleep. Vires said he thought he hit the center curb and that impact pulled him to the left where he hit the bridge support with the front passenger side of the van. The vehicle then crossed the south bound lanes of Michigan Street went up the embankment, through the sidewalk fence, struck the traffic light pole and then the van rolled over onto its side.
The impact with the traffic light knocked the pole over and onto the roof of a Marshall Starke Van that was fortunate enough to miss being hit by the van.
Ewen Vires submitted to a drug test at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. The test results were negative for any type of drugs.
Vires and a passenger in his van, Jeremy Hill who was also asleep in the van were not injured in the crash.
The Marshall Starke Development Center Van was driven by 70 year old William Kaurich of LaPaz.
