12/07/12 This week members of the Plymouth Plan Commission heard the request of Collins Leasing of Plymouth for a minor subdivision split of the current parcel at the corner of Center and Novelty Streets. Collins would like to split the 18 unit su-plex from the single family homes. The reasoning given for the split is for the possibility of sell the properties separately in the future.
Mike McClain owns a rental property in the 1200 block of North Center Street. He questioned the split because of storm water issues after the new development. He wanted to be sure no additional development could happen without someone looking at the lack of storm water drains on North Center Street.
Suzie Chavez who lives at 1212 North Center Street was also at the meeting concerned with storm water from the new development. Chavez said she had issues when the Hospital was on that location but when it was torn down the water in her basement went away. Since the new residential development has been in place the again is having water in her basement.
Members of the Plymouth Plan Commission suggested talking to the City’s Sewer Department with their concerns. The board unanimously approved the application to split for a minor subdivision.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi gave a brief update on the Comprehensive Plan Update process. The steering committee is meeting this week. He anticipates bring the first draft of revisions to the commission at their January meeting.
City Building Commission Keith Hammonds told the Plan Commission that he has started a review of the Comprehensive Plan. Some issues he sees include “a bit too much” for landscaping requirements, improvements on tattoo parlors and the 50 foot front yard setbacks in the industrial zoning districts. Hammonds said, “That is a waste of land.”
No action has taken place on the idea of the city hiring County Plan Director Ralph Booker to serve as a consultant to the city. Discussions are scheduled between the City and County to see if an agreement can be reached for Booker to provided full services for both governmental agencies or only serve as a consultant to the city.
