12/05/12 A Thank-You Party is being planned for soldiers of the 381st Military Police Company headquartered in Plymouth and the 387th Military Police Company in New Albany who returned from Afghanistan last week.
The unit, made up of about 110 soldiers was deployed from the Plymouth National Guard in January of this year.
Angela Drake and Lisa Kersey, a wife and mother of deployed soldiers and members of the Family Readiness Group started putting together an event for the National Guard troops even before they were back. The party in March isn’t just for the soldiers but also for a significant other who suffered while their loved one was deployed.
The community is invited to help with the party by sponsoring a soldier for $25. You can also sponsor the guest for an additional $25 or a whole table if you wish. Donors will be identified at the place settings on the tables letting the guests know who helped provide their evening.
The Thank-you party includes a fantastic dinner of pulled port, beef, ham, side-dishes, and more. ASK For Flowers is donating centerpieces for the tables while many others are helping with the food. Kersey said they are currently working on a bread table and need donations of different kinds of rolls and breads for it.
There will be entertainment and they are hoping to have a door-prize for each attendee. Anyone interested can donate for the door-prizes. Suggestions include gift-cards for gas and groceries, oil changes and even snow-plowing or lawn care. Other ideas include blankets, movie tickets, home decor items, and restaurant certificates.
Donations can be dropped off at the Quick Clean Laundry on West Jefferson Street in Plymouth or here at the WTCA studios.
Another way to help is by eating at Applebee’s today (12-5-12). If you stop by WTCA or Quick Clean Laundry or many other locations around town, pick up a flyer and present it to your serves at Applebee’s on Wednesday they will donate 15% of your bill to the family Readiness Group of the 381st MC Company. Not only will they donate to the Thank-you party, Applebee’s will give you a coupon for $5 off you next visit.
