11/29/12 For the past 11 years Corporal Bridget Hite with the Plymouth Police Department has lead the charge to collect boots for needy children through the Boots For The Bus Stop Program.

Years ago officers were talking about seeing children at the bus stop standing in the snow with tennis shoes on.  Teachers would comment that the kids shoes would remain wet almost the entire day and then they were back outside to go home and in the snow again.  That’s how the idea for Boots For The Bus Stop Program got started.

New and gently used boots for children of elementary school age can be donated or financial donations are accepted.  With cash and checks, Officer Hite then can get the specific size needed for the children.

This event not only collects boots, but slightly used or new hats and gloves are also accepted.

Today’s tough economic conditions make it difficult for families to meet these needs without help from people in the community.

There is still time to donate this year.  Your donated items can be dropped off at the Plymouth Police Department, Plymouth Park Department, Moose Lodge and WTCA Radio.

If you would like Officer Hite or an officer from the Plymouth Police Department to pick up your donation call the Plymouth Police Department. 936-2126
