07/23/12 Phend & Brown will begin the reconstruction on Baker Street beginning Monday, July 23rd. The construction project will cause Baker Street to be closed from North Michigan Street eastward to Grand Street.
This is the city’s only 2012 street project and low bid on the project was $159,570 from Phend & Brown out of Milford.
Baker Street will be completely closed down and the existing road will be removed. A new aggregate base will be placed with all new asphalt and curbs are expected to be in place by the end of next week.
Concrete driveway approaches and sidewalks will be next on the project list with new 5-foot wide sidewalks that are ADA compliant. The concrete will need to sit for a week before anyone will be allowed to drive on it.
The project wraps up early in August with the surface coat of asphalt, striping, traffic signal work followed by topsoil work and dos in disturbed yard areas.
Work on the Baker Street reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed by August 8th although this project is weather dependent.
