07/03/12 The staff and supporters of the Marshall County Humane Society are hoping the entire community will join them in a celebration of 30 years of service in the county. Nancy Cox, who has spent the last 24 years at the Humane Society, said the July 21 event will have something for everyone in the family. The event, free of admission charge, will be held at the Young Amphitheater in Plymouth starting at 2:00 p.m.
Children can play in the bounce house or have their faces painted. The whole family can enjoy the entertainment of Sentimental Journey (3:00 p.m.); Autumn Lead (5:00 p.m.) and Green Fire (7:00 p.m.). Local celebrity Mike Litner will be hosting the program that includes a cat calling contest.
Cox said those attending can bring coolers, lawn chairs and blankets and stay for the evening. Adults with ID’s can take part in a beer and wine tasting party.
Yellow River BBQ will be selling a variety of foods and have pledged a portion of their proceeds to the Humane Society. Visitors can also purchase custom Humane Society t-shirts and ice cream treats.
Cox said the shelter is completely full at this time as they house 14 dogs and more than 30 cats. She said, “We are in desperate need of donations of cat litter, bleach, dog food and puppy food.
She said the majority of the animals in the shelter now are strays and they are only taking owned animals on a waiting list.
As always, both dogs and cats are up for adoption after a 24-hour waiting period.
