05/09/12 The Argos Town Council listened to a presentation from Midwest Toxicology Services at their meeting this month. Susie Fields, the representative for Midwest Toxicology Services, told the Council that they started business in 1992 and they have provide the drug and alcohol screening for the State of Indiana since 1995. They also are the providers for the towns of Bremen and Bourbon and also all the Marshall County Schools. They have eight mobile units for onsite services. The mobile units have restrooms prepped per federal regulations and the person being tested would be away from their job for about five minutes. Fields went on to explain that Argos employees would be put into a consortium of about 800 individuals. Every quarter, 50% of the consortium would be randomly selected for drugs screening and 10% for alcohol screening. Midwest Toxicology would supply the town each year with the federal required records.
In other business the Argos Town Council decided that Indiana Avenue would be the only street paved this year. “Be it as Indiana is one of the most traveled streets we should have it paved,” said Council Member, Dave Walker. Utility Superintendent, John Archambeult, explained that the life of a chip and sealed road is 3-5 years, while a paved road is 10-12 years. Council President, George Null, wanted it stressed that there will be no other road or sidewalk project this year due to the cost of paving Indiana Avenue. There were two bids opened and the Council voted, with one abstaining, to have E&B Paving, with a bid of $51,500 to do the work this summer. Council Member Mark VanDerWeele abstained from voting since he lives on Indiana Avenue.
The Council also voted to give the Argos Public Library $200 for their 2012 Summer Reading Program entitled, “Dream Big — READ”. There will be activities and prizes for participants from preschool through adult age levels. The 8 week program will start May 29th and concludes on July 21st.
