05/04/12 Plymouth’s City Engineer Rick Gaul announced a street closure due to the demolition of the Cook/Dimmitt building on South Michigan Street.

On Sunday May 6th from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM, South Michigan Street will be closed to traffic between East Lake Avenue and West LaPorte Street.  The closure is due to safety concerns to protect the traveling public from possible debris emanating from the demolition process while the western front wall of the Cook/ Dimmitt building is being demolished.

Normal access, from the south, will be provided to Penguin Point and D’Origen.  Parking for D’Origen will be in the rear of the building as normally provided by traveling west on Lake Avenue (north of Bowen Printing) off Michigan Street.

A detour will be provided from the south by traveling east on Pennsylvania Avenue to Liberty Street, north on Liberty Street to Garro Street, and west on Garro Street to Michigan Street.  The detour from the north will be provided by traveling east on Garro Street to Liberty Street,  south on Liberty Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, and west on Pennsylvania Avenue to Michigan Street.

We wish to thank the public for avoiding the closed area, which will safely expedite the demolition process and minimize the street closure time required.
