05/02/12 Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore David Long the Republican from Fort Wayne Monday announced his selection of Senator Randy Head the Republican from Logansport to serve as chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government. Head will take over the committee’s chairmanship duties from former Sen. Connie Lawson, who left the senate in March to become Indiana’s Secretary of State.
“I’m greatly honored by the opportunity serve in this new capacity,” Head said. “I have great respect for all of my colleagues on the committee and look forward to working with each of them in the days ahead.”
First elected to the Indiana Senate in 2008, Head has been a leader on legislation addressing local government reorganization and merger, accountability and ethics for public officials, local election law and various judicial and court administration issues.
“Secretary Lawson did an outstanding job and set a high bar, but I believe Randy is ready to take on more responsibility and fill her shoes,” Long said. “With an honorable background in serving Cass County and a record of excellence in his legal profession, he will be an asset to both the Senate and to the Local Government Committee.”
Head currently has his own private law practice in Logansport and has previously served as deputy prosecuting attorney in Cass County. He is a board member of the Cass County Community Foundation and a local Rotary Club member.
“The issues handled by the Local Government Committee don’t always get the most attention, but they often have a big impact on our local communities,” Head said. “I’m looking forward to tackling important issues in this new role and making a positive difference for Hoosiers in both the senate district I represent and across Indiana.”
Head’s chairmanship was effective beginning Monday.
