04/09/12 Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident that occurred Saturday, April 7th near the intersection of 9th Rd and Sycamore Rd, Plymouth.  Marshall County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at 4:09 p.m. advising of an ATV accident with injury.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the ATV was being operated by Brent Hoover (41) on private property when the accident occurred.  His sons Brady Hoover (7) and Bryce Hoover (5) were passengers on the 3 seat, side-by-side ATV.  Brent Hoover drove over a drainage ditch and lost control of the ATV.  The ATV rolled end over end several times before coming to rest right side up.

Brady Hoover was transported to Plymouth Hospital by ambulance and then airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital for observation.  Brent Hoover and Bryce Hoover were also transported to Plymouth Hospital where they were treated and released.  No one was wearing a helmet and only Bryce was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident.

Conservation Officers urge operators and passengers of ATVs to follow all manufacturers’ safety recommendations.  Even though a helmet is not required by law, Conservation Officers strongly encourage the use of all safety equipment.  Information on ATV safety can be located online through the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America at atvsafety.org or by calling 800-887-2887.
