02/29/12 The Indiana Middle Level Education Assn (IMLEA), state office for Schools to Watch is proud to announce the newly designated Indiana Schools to Watch for 2012: Riverside Intermediate School in Plymouth tops the list with other schools including Christel House Academy in Indianapolis, Franklin Community Middle School in Franklin, and Hebron Middle School in Hebron.

These 4 schools now join the other 7 Indiana Schools to Watch in becoming mentor schools for any middle level schools, grades 5 – 8, who are seeking help as a school or in any particular area regarding Academic Excellence, Developmental Responsiveness, Social Equity, or Organizational Support and Processes. These schools are all prepared for visits and networking of any kind. IMLEA has also trained over 40 administrators and teachers in Indiana in the STW criteria so that they are prepared to review applications, participate in site visits, and mentor other IN middle schools.

Teams for the 4 new schools will attend the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform’s Summer Conference in Washington, D.C. in June, 2012. They will present a session on a program or practice at their school, spend an hour with an IN legislator on the “Hill,” advocating for middle school best practices, attend the sessions given by other national STW, and attend a gala dinner to formally receive their award.
