01/04/12 Mayor Mark Senter’s Office announced today that City Attorney Nelson Chipman submitted a letter of resignation effective at the close of business on February 29, 2012. In his letter Chipman expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the administration, the department heads and the citizens of Plymouth for the last four years. He lamented about the difficulty of the decision to leave, but felt confident the timing was right as the City was in a solid financial and managerial condition. Also, the beginning of a new term in office for both the Mayor and Clerk-Treasurer, along with three new and enthusiastic councilmen offered a rare opportunity to assist in the transition of a successor to the head of the Department of Law.
Mayor Senter expressed his gratitude for Chipman’s service. Senter stated, “Nelson began discussing with me even before the election about possible opportunities to focus his career in public service in a new direction. Although I hate to see him leave, I support him in his decision as he has supported me these last several years.”
Senter continued, “A search for a new City Attorney has already begun. I appreciate Nelson remaining as City Attorney for the next two months as I will call upon his expertise to assist in identifying potential candidates, and once selected, to manage a smooth, seamless transition. I also know Nelson will be available long term as a resource to me and my administration.”
