01/02/12 This year’s theme for Relay for Life Marshall County is “Purple! Purple! Purple!”. It will be evident at this Wednesday’s kick-off for the overnight event June 23-24. LifePlex at 2855 Miller Drive in Plymouth will be hosting the happening starting at 6 p.m. Parking will be reserved for Relayers and a driver will be available to “shuttle” those who must park in the other lot. In the event of snow, it will be held on Jan. 11.
As in years past, the kick-off affords an opportunity for long-time teams to join with those newly formed as well as those incubating with the idea. In addition to lots of food for thought, there will be food, fun and information.
Trisha Metz, ACS Community Representative, promises, “Kick-off will be a little different this year, including a game!” and urges relayers to invite their teams. Terri Biddle and Metz will kick off the evening with the room adorned in purple and informational material for those wanting to get involved or help spread the word.
“Bring your friend, your neighbor, your co-workers…anyone who may be interested in joining a team or starting on their own,” Biddle said. “We couldn’t be more excited for this year’s Relay For Life Kick-Off, and we don’t want you to miss it. Join us as we launch the best year ever for the Relay For Life of Marshall County!”
Metz, will explain where the thousands of dollars raised go for research. This year’s fundraising goal locally is $53,000 and the plan is to overshoot it this year. Relay for Life across the country raises more than $350 million for cancer research that has made a difference in thousands of lives—many of them locally.
“Cancer affects everyone” is an oft-repeated phrase. The regulars are well aware and looking for new volunteers. Those unable to attend can call Biddle at 574-209-4757or Metz at 574-257-9789 x3 to offer their services. You don’t have to walk to help.
