DONNELLY STATEMENT ON VETERANS DAY

November 11, 2011

11/11/11 Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly released the following statement to commemorate Veterans Day:

“I commend the veterans from Indiana and across the United States on this Veterans Day. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their service to our country.  They put their lives on the line to defend our freedom, and there is no way we can truly thank them enough for that.

“Over 52,000 veterans live in the congressional district that I am honored to represent, Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District.  Some served decades ago in World War II; others have just recently returned home from Iraq or Afghanistan. We must continue to welcome home these new veterans, most young and some wounded from service-related injuries.

“It is incumbent upon us to see that our veterans receive the best quality medical care and benefits that they have earned through their sacrifices for our country.  And we must ensure that those services are provided to our veterans with the promptness and respect that they deserve.

“On Veterans Day, and every day, let us honor veterans’ service with actions that fulfill our commitment to them. On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind.  As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.”
