11/14/11 Miller’s Senior Living Community of Plymouth hosted their annual Veteran’s Day Buffet and entertainment for area veterans on Thursday, Nov. 10 at noon.  Since there are so many activities going on in Marshall County on Veteran’s Day, Miller’s chooses to celebrate a day early to give veterans a chance to attend the different celebration.

Veterans attending the Miller’s celebration were treated to a free meal of ham, homemade beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a selection of homemade desserts.  Many veterans stopped by to enjoy the meal and the entertainment.

All branches of the service were represented at the event.  Of the residents living at the assisted living facility; seven are veterans.  They include Louisa Carr, Don Keister, Fred Morrow, Kennedy Robinson, Jack Sherman, Bill Whitesell and Jim Winenger.

American Legion Commander Julian Keiser presented Miller’s Marketing Director Anna Corbett with an American flag to fly at the facility.  Several of the veterans present gathered to take a group photo.

Following the buffet residents and guests enjoyed a “Salute To the Armed Forces” by Wendy Kress and Jerry Flint of Nice & Easy Dance Troupe.  The program was very interactive with the audience reminiscing about the USO and famous entertainers that performed for the troops.  Guest and veteran Banks D. Filson told about shaking hands with Bob Hope and resident Rita Nye talked about dancing with the Special Services in Greenland.  Discussion also stirred memories of the cost of living during the 40’s.  Shirley Apple mentioned a loaf of bread costing 5 cents and a gallon of milk costing around 60 cents.

Kress and Flint thrilled the audience with dances to songs such as  “G.I. Jive”, “I Love Paris”, “A Tisket A Tasket”, “I’ll Be Seeing You”, and “The Canteen Bounce”.  Guest Velma Butler joined Flint for the final dance to “Night and Day”.

Many events at Miller’s are open to the public.  The Melody Makers of Indiana under the direction of Eileen Wright will appear in concert at Miller’s on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 2:00 p.m.  For more information call 574-936-9801 and ask for Anna Corbett or Cindy Flagg.
