11/03/11 State Sen Ryan Mishler (R-Bremen) was recently recognized by the construction industry for his support of the “design-build” delivery system that can save time and money when completing public works projects.
Mishler – ranking member of the Senate Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy – was named “distinguished” design-build leader and recognized by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) in October at the 2011 Design-Build Conference and Expo. The three-day event in Orlando, Fla., provided information about design-build products, techniques and services.
Mishler authored and supported key amendments to state law encouraging the “design-build” approach to public works projects. With this project-delivery system, design-build teams work under single contracts with clients.
This helps relieve clients of major legal risks and managerial duties because design-build teams are responsible for errors and omissions. Clients can also save time and money because design-build teams provide both design and construction services.
“By shifting to the design-build system, our state can better stretch tax dollars and complete public works projects faster,” Mishler said. “I’m honored to be recognized by the construction industry, but most important, I’m proud that we are wisely investing tax dollars.”
Susan Hines, managing director of public relations for the Design Build Institute, said throughout the past 15 years, use of design-build has greatly accelerated in the United States and is now frequently chosen over other construction methods.
“This delivery method is one of the most significant trends in design and construction today,” Hines said.
