8/10/11 The Plymouth Common Council approved ordinance 2011-2023 on second and third reading Monday night that will allow for the inclusion of the Gracelawn addition to the New Oak Hill Cemetery.

There are 864 grave spaces in the addition that will be located to the west and south of the office and Chapel.   The ordinance allows for each space to be sold at $500.

The Board of Public Works and Safety also took action on an expansion to New Oak Hill Cemetery.  Monday night they opened quotes for a columbarium. A columbarium is a place for the respectful and usually public storage for urns holding a deceased’s cremated remains.

Three bids were opened for the free-standing structure that will have 72 niches.  South Bend Monument had a quote of $29,030 while the Remembrance Centre of Plymouth offered a quote of $25,396 and Paradise Monument Company had a quote of $38,316.  The quotes not only included the structure, but the installation, foundation and sidewalk.

The Board of Public Works took the quotes under advisement with anticipation of awarding the quote at their next meeting in two weeks.
