03/14/11 The Mayor’s Youth Council has spent the last three months researching names for the new downtown park. Together they have created a survey with their favorite names and the reason why they selected the name. Now they want the community’s input. They have also included a space at the bottom of the form to allow the community to submit their own name ideas for the new downtown park.
The survey will be included in the March water bills and citizens are encouraged to reture them when they pay their water bills. You can also return them to the Plymouth Park Department at 1660 North Michigan Street in Plymouth. Everyone also has the opportunity submit their name for the new downtown park by visiting the Centennial Park face-book page and submitting their suggestions.
Name suggestions will be accepted until April 29th.
The Mayor’s Youth Council is comprised of students in the community from ages 10 to 18. They are looking forward to receiving input from the community and hope everyone will participate.
Results of the surveys are planned to be revealed on June 4 at the Yellow River Festival. Mayor Mark Senter will officially name the new downtown park.
Names selected by the Mayor’s Youth Council are:
○ River Park Square – “Let’s meet at the square.”
○ Greenway Park – Short and sweet. It will become part of the Greenway Trails and a fun stop along the way.
○ Corbin Park – Horace Corbin was elected the first mayor, and the downtown park should be named after him as he helped build the city to what it is today.
○ Yellow Banks Park – It is a name that matches very well with the Yellow River Festival, and the Yellow River.
