11/05/10 The Marshall County Commissioners will hold a special meeting with property owners of Lake of the Woods on Saturday, November 6th at the Lake of the Woods Community Building, 8745 North Shore Drive at 9 a.m.  The Special Meeting has been called to discuss county-owned and privately-owned accesses of the lake.

The special meeting will take place during the regular Lake of the Woods Property Owners Association.

A committee has been working for several months trying to determine the best way put the privately owned land back on the tax rolls.

An issue was brought to the attention of the Commissioner early this summer about residents placing privately owned piers in the public right of ways.  A thorough investigation was completed researching the legal ownership of some 30 accesses to the lake.  Those that have been determined to be privately owned need to be added to the tax rolls.  Many of the privately owned excesses were created to allow property owners in the specific subdivisions access to the lake if they did not have lake frontage.

During a special evening meeting this summer the commissioner detailed the ownership of the various accesses.  They informed the residents that those privately owned would be put on the tax rolls.

A resolution is ready for the commissioners to approve placing the property on the tax rolls.  The commissioners decided it would be best to discuss the issue with Lake of the Woods property owners prior to voting on the resolution.  They also felt moving the meeting to the Community Building would allow more residents to attend.
