An issue with the state specifications for HMX mix may cause a delay in the completion of the 7th Road construction project.

During the commissioner’s meeting on Monday Bart Trester from USI Consultants informed them off issues in asphalt around the state.  Several locations have experienced a buckling of the pavement and INDOT wants to review the specifications before any additional is placed on the county’s project.

This could be the second substantial delay the project has seen.  Last year unsuitable soils were located along the path of the construction project and had to be removed and replaced.

Trester told the commissioners traffic has been transferred back to driving through the center of the round-a-bout so construction work can occur on the east and west sides of the circle.  Traffic will return back on the round-a-bout when work is completed.

Trester said original plans were to have 7th Road complete by the end of June and the intersection with the new US 31 is scheduled to be completed by June 15th.  He will report back to the commissioner at their first meeting in June with additional information on the asphalt issues.
