Plymouth Community SchoolsThe Plymouth School Board will meet on May 5 for both an executive session and a regularly scheduled meeting. The executive session will begin at 6:30 P.M., followed by the regular meeting at approximately 7:00 P.M.  The executive session is being called the discuss the purchase or lease of real property and to interview a prospective employee.

During the Consent Agenda portion of the regular meeting, the Board will consider an overnight trip for the NCFL Grand National Tournament in Florida; overnight trip for the Indiana State FFA Convention; overnight trip for the National Middle School Speech and Debate Tournament in Texas; and non residence student admissions for the 2014-2015 and the 2015-2016 school years.

Additional agenda items include the adoption of Social Studies Textbooks for the elementary schools, Riverside Intermediate, Lincoln Junior High and Plymouth High School. Choices, being recommended by committees from staff of each of the schools along with parents, include both physical and digital selections.

Administrators are also recommending instituting late arrival days in order to allow time for professional development of staff. According to information attached to the agenda, “The DOE (Department of Education) recently released new standards and the new state assessments are still being constructed“. It also indicated that the corporation’s Professional Development Plan would provide ongoing opportunities for the development of curriculum and assessment and increase the capacity of the staff to meet individual student needs. The proposal calls for student arrival one hour late for one day each week.

The agenda includes one topic labeled “Reduction in Force: JESSE”, but does not elaborate on how the reduction would be accomplished.

Time is set aside during the regular meeting to receive comments from the public on agenda items only.
