02/22/11 During the Drainage Board meeting Monday, Marshall County Surveyor Larry Fisher presented his recommendations for various drains that should continue or be placed on the non-collection status for this year and those that should be placed on the active collection status for 2011. A total of 38 County regulated drains have reached an accumulation equal to 4 years of collection while the County will continue to collect assessments on 52 regulated drains.
The drainage board also accepted two petitions of Don Allison of Redwood Road in Plymouth. The first petition is to have the county place a mutual drain that Allison and several neighbors have been maintaining since 1965.
Fisher explained that a group of property owners in 1965 had the desire to maintain the ditch collectively rather than have the county collect an assessment on said. In recent years Allison hasn’t been able to get all those involved with the mutual drain to contribute to its maintenance, thus his desire to have the County make it a regulated drain.
The second petition is to place the drain on maintenance. The watershed for the drain encompasses 500 acres. Fisher stated that the assessment dropped from an estimated $10 per acre to $4 per acre. A public hearing will be held at the next Marshall County Drainage Board meeting on March 21st.
