BENTON HARBOR, MI – The Lady Chargers were defeated by Lake Michigan Community College in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association District G Tournament, 81-46.

The Ancilla women (12-18, 4-13 Michigan Community College Athletic Association) came out strong with their defense efforts against the Red Hawks of Lake Michigan Community College (22-8,14-3 MCCAA), as the game took on an intense end to end rhythm. At the first time out of the game, Lake Michigan had a one point lead over the Chargers. Ancilla was able to tie the game with ten minutes left to play in the first half and then pull ahead by two. However, Lake Michigan was able to make an 18-2 run and capture a 17 point lead before heading into the locker rooms. To kick off the second half, Ancilla’s La’Fabian Coleman shot a three to cut Lake Michigan’s lead 48-32. With less than ten minutes on the clock, the Red Hawks were able to grow their lead to 20 and ultimately defeated the Lady Chargers by 35 to end the game.

Khadijah Moore led the scoring for the Chargers with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Coleman added eight points for Ancilla and Taylor Kuhnle and Marissa Stephens each contributed seven. Alexis Williams also pulled down nine rebounds.

“I was very proud of defensive effort the first seventeen minutes of the game,” remarked Ancilla College head coach Tom Robbins. “The players did a really good job of making things difficult in the half court for Lake Michigan and did a nice job of transition defense. We struggled shooting the ball all night but our defense really held for most of the first half. The game and the spread came down to the last three minutes of the first half when our defensive effort dropped. I am proud of what our team was able to accomplish this year and the way we played the last month of the season.”

The Lady Chargers finished their season with 11 more wins than last year with a 12-18 record.
