Found child Starke CountyAbout 7:30 Tuesday morning  the Starke County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a small child approximately 4 years old that was walking down State Road 8 in the area of County Road 1100 E.

The caller placed the child in a vehicle and waited until a Sheriff’s officer arrived on scene. Once on scene the officer attempted to locate the child’s house and parents but was unable, and the officer transported the child to the Sheriff’s Office and contacted the Department of Child Services and turned the child over to their custody until the parents were located.

The caller also placed a photo of the child and a description on Facebook in an attempt to help locate her family.

A short time later officers located the mother at her residence, a short distance from where the child was found. Officers received a statement the mother and a 19 year old that was in the house with the child.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office will prepare a report to be reviewed by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.
