05/16/12 The Triton School Corporation will begin the 2012-2013 school year with a new superintendent. At a regularly scheduled school board meeting on Monday night, Donna Burroughs was named superintendent to replace retiring Superintendent Carl Hilling. Burroughs will officially begin at Triton on July 1.

Burroughs said, “I’m excited about the opportunity for working with great teachers at Triton.” She added, “I believe we can make great things happen for the children at Triton. Triton Schools are the best kept secret in Marshall County.”

Currently, Burroughs is the principal of Riverside Intermediate School in Plymouth. She was responsible for designing programs and implementing policies for the school in 2006 when a fifth and sixth grade school was launched. While at Riverside, the school received a National Title I Distinguished School Nomination and a “Schools to Watch” Award Winner for Indiana.

Burroughs received Bachelor Degrees in both Music Education and Psychology from DePauw University in 1976. She went on to secure a Master’s Degree in 1982 in Elementary and Secondary School Counseling and Student Services from Indiana University and Master’s Degree in Elementary and Secondary School Administration, also from Indiana University in 1984. In 2010, Burroughs earned a Specialist in Education Degree from Ball State University.

She has been a part of the Plymouth School Corporation since 1994, serving as principal in Jefferson Elementary and Webster Elementary.

Prior to that time, she was an At-Risk Counselor for Argos Community Schools, Middle School Counselor at Rochester Middle School, self-employed nursery school teacher, Statistics Instructor for Ancilla College, a Middle School Choral/General Music Teacher at Dunbar Middle School, Ft. Myers, Florida, and K-12 Choral/General Music teacher at Argos Community Schools and 7-12 Choral/General Music Teacher, Southmont Jr.-Sr. High School, Crawfordsville.
