A Culver man was arrested last Thursday, April 20th following a December 2022 investigation involving the complaint of around from a firearm being shot into a home.
On Friday, December 16th, 2022, just before 8 p.m. Officer Alex Truty with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was on regular duty patrol. Marshall County dispatch advised county police units to respond to a residence in the 12,000 block of Union Road. The call was for someone who had fired a round through the complainant’s kitchen sliding door and it had struck their kitchen table. Marshall County Dispatch also advised that the round had possibly come from a nearby neighbor’s home on a hill.
Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated the incident and believed that subjects had been shooting a weapon outside of the residence of Joseph Hummel at 12571 Union Road. The case report was completed and forwarded to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal criminal charges on Joseph R. Hummel for Criminal Recklessness Shooting a Firearm into an Inhabited Building, as a Level 5 Felony. On April 20, Joseph R. Hummel was arrested for the arrest warrant and booked into the Marshall County Jail. He is being held on a $3,000 cash bond.
