State Reps. Jack Jordan (R-Bremen) and Jake Teshka (R-South Bend) recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members’ two-year terms. Jordan will serve as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and as chair of the Budget Subcommittee. He will also serve on the House Education Committee, and the House Government and Regulatory Reform Committee.
“Committees are integral to the legislative process as lawmakers take a deep dive into the complex issues impacting our state,” Jordan said. “With this being a budget-writing year, I will keep focused on ensuring Indiana remains fiscally responsible while finding additional ways for Hoosiers to keep more of their hard-earned money.”
In 2022, Jordan and Teshka supported $1 billion in tax relief for Hoosiers, the largest tax-cut package in state history. The legislation lowered the state’s income tax and eliminated the utility receipts tax, which was paid on electricity, natural gas, water, steam, sewage and telephone bills.
Teshka was named vice chair of the House Financial Institutions Committee, and as a member of the House Education Committee and the House Public Policy Committee.
“As vice chair of the House Financial Institutions Committee, I plan to draw on my experience as a business development professional to best serve our state,” Teshka said. “This session, we’ll also be considering several policies supporting our students and schools, and impacting public policy.”
