It was a full house Wednesday evening at Oregon Davis High School for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) public meeting on future changes to U.S. 30 and U.S. 31.
The ProPEL Study incorporates U.S. 30 from Valparaiso to the Indiana/Ohio state line and U.S. 31 from Plymouth southward to Hamilton County.
INDOT is seeking public input on how the roads are used by local citizens, businesses, and industries. The state is seeking input on how the community values and priorities to “ProPEL” the two corridors forward in the future.
When meeting with locals, the ProPEL study committee will seek their recommendations on where interchanges, bridges, and access to the freeway should be located and which accesses should be closed.
The ProPEL studies are expected to be completed in the summer of 2024. The U.S. 30 plan The U.S. 30 west study area is from State Road 49 in Porter County to Beech Road in Marshall County. It also includes U.S. 31 from U.S. 30 southward to West County Road 700 North in Fulton County.
When discussing the timeline, it was noted that after the studies are completed a planning process will take one to two years and the final design could take one to three years with construction taking up to five years.
