FT. WAYNE — The Marian University Ancilla Women’s Basketball Team returned to action at Indiana Tech and came away with a 55-43 win over the Warriors.
In the win, Jayci Allen finished with 23 points on 10-19 shooting including 2-4 from the 3 point line and also added 10 rebounds for her 3rd consecutive double-double.
Kyra Duncan followed with 15 points on 7-15 shooting and a team-leading 12 rebounds. This was Kyra’s 2nd double-double of the season with her first coming in the season opener at Lincoln Trail.
Nicole Swain joined Allen and Duncan in double figures with 11 points to go with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Once again, it was the Charger defense that got the job done, holding the Warriors to just 43 points on 29% shooting (16-55) and forcing 19 turnovers.
The Chargers outrebounded Indiana Tech 43-38 as well. During their 3-game winning streak, the Chargers have allowed just 49.3 points per game.
“It’s always tough coming back after a long break but I thought the team showed they were ready to play in that first quarter, jumping out 22-11,” said Charger head coach Ryan Gould. “Our defense was solid throughout the game but we still have work to do on the offensive end.”
“Jayci Allen was tremendous tonight on both ends and has really turned in to an elite rebounder. Kyra Duncan got us off to a great start with 13 points in the first half and Nicole joined them with double figures again,” said Gould. “Overall, it was a great way to start a busy two weeks that will have us on the road 5 times.”
With the win, Marian University Ancilla moves to 6-2 and will return to action on Thursday night at Henry Ford CC with a start time of 5:30 PM.
