The initial U.S. 31 Planning Committee will conduct a Kickoff Meeting on Monday at 1 p.m. in room 207 of the County Building. The meeting is open to the public.
Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer is Chairman of the U.S. 31 Coalition. The coalition has encouraged each county to create its individual planning committees to work on a plan to submit to INDOT for the location of interchanges and bridges.
Members will include but not be limited to Overmyer, County Plan Director Ty Adley, a representative from REMC, IMI, and Houin Farms. They hope to have someone from both the Plymouth School Corporation and Argos Community Schools.
The county’s plan director said “A study like this was done in 2014 when they changed to a freeway style for U.S. 31. With this 2-year study of U.S. 30 and 31, it’s a great opportunity for us to advocate again and take another look at what that study generated previously, what has changed for Marshall County and this region so we can adequately best serve our members in the community. We have an opportunity to present what we think will be the best fit for Marshall County and its residents rather than being left behind.”
Eventually, the U.S. 31 Planning Committee will make a recommendation to the Commissioners and the commissioners will forward the information to INDOT.
The commissioners took official action by passing a motion to create the U.S. 31 Planning Committee. They will be looking at U.S. 31 from U.S. 30 to State Road 110.
