The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) announced that Marshall County Coroner John Grolich received the 2022 Outstanding County Coroner Award. The award recognized his contributions made to county government throughout his years of public service.
Grolich was born and raised in Marshall County where he worked 50 years as a Firefighter and 47 years in EMS. He obtained funding and provided training for over 100 Automated External Defibrillators which were placed in the hands of emergency responders and school systems of Marshall County. He was promoted as Chief Deputy Coroner from 1997 to 2000, and then was elected and served as coroner from 2001-2009 and 2017 to present. Grolich is also a Certified Medical Legal Death Investigator. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy and served in the United States Army.
The award was presented during the AIC’s 64th Annual Conference in St. Joseph County on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. The AIC’s Annual Conference is the largest gathering of county officials in the state. Representatives from public agencies, private entities, and local elected officials addressed issues such as American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Public Health Commission, Pathways to Permitting, Cybersecurity, Energy Evolution, Attracting and Retaining the County Workforce, Cost Savings Programs in Time of Inflation, and so much more.
