Daniel Owen Voreis, age 68, of Argos, IN passed away on July 8, 2022.
Dan was born December 20, 1953 in Plymouth Indiana to Orville J. and Nita Louise (Leland) Voreis. He was a lifelong resident of Argos, Indiana. He is 1972 graduate of Argos High School. He married Denise A. Voreis on March 3, 1984. Dan had a love for nature, enjoyed farming and enjoyed sharing his love with his family. He enjoyed giving tractor rides, combine rides and taking his family out to the pond to watch nature. He spent his life farming, raising cattle, growing corn, beans, and popcorn. He retired in 2013. Dan often mentioned that the happiest day of his life was marrying his wife, Denise. He represented FFA at a YouthPower Conference in Fort Wayne where he met her. He was reacquainted with Denise at the Bourbon Town Pump Day Parade in 1982, and the rest is history. He always liked to say he picked up his wife on the street corner.
Dan was quick witted and enjoyed telling stories. He created backward planet and Grizzley bear bedtime stories. Since he liked science fiction, he published two books, Beyond Mars: End of War and David and The Asteroid: Return to Earth. He enjoyed making others smile by his jolly sense of humor and teasing his family. When traveling in the car while vacationing, he enjoyed backward spelling contests and talking about the cornfields. He often shared his love of history and politics with family and friends. He was also known for his worldwide scrambled egg recipe!
In school he was involved in Argos FFA serving as President and in 4-H. Upon graduation, he was District Reporter and President where he received the district level corn and beef production awards and the FFA American Farmer Degree. Dan felt passionate to help others and to be involved in the community and world. He has been a past member of the Marshall County Fair Board, Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation Board, and the Green Township Advisory Board serving as the Green Township Trustee. He served on the Marshall County Drainage Board, Marshall County Zoning Board of Appeals and the Marshall County Plan Board. Currently, he was a member of the Argos Lions Club International, a member of the Bourbon First United Methodist Church, and former member of Argos United Methodist Church, where he was trustee and enjoyed helping with food baskets.
Dan will be missed by his loving wife Denise A. (Monesmith) Voreis; his daughters: Christine (Brian) Hides of Lake Bluff, IL; Tracy (Andy Dabasinskas) Voreis of Centennial, CO; Karisa (Sam) Laughlin of Carmel, IN; and his son, Kreig (Christina) Voreis of Carmel, IN. He enjoyed his grandchildren dearly: Eloise and Marielle Hides; Paxton Dabasinskas; and Owen and Henry Laughlin. Surviving also are his sister, Marilyn Voreis of St Petersburg, FL; his brothers: Thomas (Darcy) Voreis of Noblesville; John (Fran) Voreis of Grandville, MI; and William Voreis of Argos; his sister-in-law, Beverly Voreis; along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Orville J. and Nita Louise (Leland) Voreis; and his oldest brother, Jacob Voreis.
Visitation service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Bourbon First United Methodist Church (204 N Washington St., Bourbon, IN 46504). The family requests masks for those in attendance.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Bourbon First United Methodist Church (204 N Washington St., Bourbon, IN 46504) with Pastor Rob Seewald presiding. The family requests masks for those in attendance.
Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery (Bourbon, IN).
