Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon. The small, front‐yard book exchanges number more than 100,000 around the world in over 100 countries — from Iceland to Tasmania to Pakistan. Now, a new Little Free Library at William L. Foker Park (also called “Pond Park”), 137 Pond Street in Argos will join the movement to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers.
Little Free Library charter #139947 was built by Laura Jones’s husband. The outside features barn wood from Laura’s grandmother McGriff’s barn, which is very special because her grandmother was her biggest influence to be a reader, writer, and librarian. The inside is Laura’s signature favorite color – hot pink! Laura is a Librarian by profession, and in her free time, she is a book reviewer, book blogger, and bookstagramer. Her true passion is sharing books with others. Laura’s blog is librarianlaura.com. Many of the books you’ll find at this LFL are early unfinished copies that she receives directly from authors and publishers to make early reviews. They cannot be sold, so this is the best way to share them with you! Please post pics of your visit and tag her @laurapedenjones on Instagram. Laura loves her small hometown of Argos, where she spent 5 years as the School Librarian at Argos Community Schools. She now works for the Indiana State Library. She is a volunteer Argos Youth Soccer Coach, a member of the Argos Lions Club, and very active in her local church. Laura would like to give a special thanks to the Argos Park Board for allowing her to place the library at William L. Foker Park.
Wondering how it all works? Laura initially stocks the Little Free Library with a variety of books for all ages. You stop by and take whatever catches your eye. Laura Jones will host a grand‐opening party for her Little Free Library on Saturday, June 4 at 2 PM., open to the public. The celebration will include free books and refreshments.
The Little Free Library nonprofit organization has been honored by the Library of Congress, the National Book Foundation, and the American Library Association.
