Josh Pitts, Director of Programs at the Marshall County Jail recently appeared before the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety and Marshall County Commissioners with requests to conduct a Recovery Walk and Family Resource Fair.
On April 25th Pitts requested permission to conduct a walk from the Marshall County Court House to Christo’s Banquet Center on Lincolnway East on Saturday, August 27th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The walk ends at the Sober Living House which is next to Christo’s Banquet Center.
Josh told the Board of Public Works and Safety that recovery walks, in general, provide hope for people in recovery in this community. The resource fair will provide an opportunity for individuals looking for assistance or families looking for help to assist their family members in the recovery process.
Councilman Jeff Houin had some concerns about walking down East Jefferson Street as a safety issue. While there are sidewalks until Liberty Street, walkers will have to walk through several parking lots until they reach Roy Street where the sidewalks start up again. Police Chief Dave Bacon said he had concerns with walking on the street.
Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel offered to provide traffic control if needed.
The preference from the Board of Public Works was to use the sidewalk and if too many people are attending the County Police will provide traffic control.
This week the Marshall County Commissioners approved the request of Pitts to use the Courthouse lawn to start the Recovery Walk. He plans on having Marshall Superior Court III Judge Matt Sarber and Ward Byers from Community Corrections be the guest speakers before the walk to Christo’s Banquet Center.
August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day which happens to be a Wednesday, so the thought was to conduct the Recovery Walk on Saturday prior.
