Barb Wolf Holcomb representing the Marshall County Council on Aging and the Life Enrichment Center discussed the importance of volunteerism at the last meeting of the Plymouth Lions Club. Volunteerism increases your relationship and connection with others. In many cases, it can provide a sense of purpose in one’s life. She encouraged all to determine what their passions were and even consider volunteering as a family. This type of family event can strengthen family relations and unity as well as help others have a better life.
There are so many Community Volunteer Opportunities. For example, the Life Enrichment Center and Senior Center in Plymouth offer educational, artistic, and social programs. This includes legal seminars, computer classes, arts and crafts, and even card groups. The Center also provides a meeting place for numerous clubs and organizations and offers free wireless internet service.
The Marshal County Expo 2021 summed it up well with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. “Everyone can be great because anyone can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t even have to make your subject and verb agree to serve…You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.”
In other business, the Club approved a donation to the Lincoln Middle School 8th grade Robotics Team which was fundraising to compete in the World Competition in Dallas, Texas. The Plymouth Lions Club was proud to help support the youth of our community in such an outstanding educational accomplishment.
A new slate of officers will be elected at the next meeting to continue the mission of service in our community. In keeping with this mission, three scholarships will be awarded at the end of the month to Plymouth High School seniors. The Club is also honored to contribute to the Kizer Award for outstanding female and male athletes for Plymouth High School on Awards Day at PHS.
We are a world of need and as Lions, We Serve.
